About Village Project
Founded in 2010, Village Project harnesses the power of community to serve families fighting cancer by preparing and delivering nutritious meals, providing holistic support, and fostering multigenerational volunteerism. We believe in “serving through gifts,” pairing the skills and passions of our volunteers with the tangible needs of families in five Northeast Ohio communities that include Avon, Avon Lake, Bay Village, Rocky River, and Westlake.
Position Summary
The Executive Director will serve as the primary steward of our donor community—nurturing existing relationships through thoughtful outreach, timely acknowledgements and proactive engagement to deepen their connection and support. In tandem, you will oversee the design and delivery of our nourishment programs. You will strengthen our ties with community champions and local leaders by creating meaningful relationships, soliciting feedback, and fostering collaboration that advances our mission. As the Board’s key liaison, you’ll keep trustees apprised of strategic priorities, fundraising milestones and operational achievements. You will also recruit, mentor and inspire a diverse team of staff and volunteers, cultivating a culture of excellence and shared purpose.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Financial Oversight
Program & Volunteer Management
Oversee day to day meal preparation and delivery programs
Drive recruitment of active volunteers, ensuring a positive, mission driven culture
Responsible for the fiscal health of the organization
Work with the Board and Financial Director to prepare and maintain an annual budget that supports the mission and vision of the organization
Monitor expenditures and income
Represent the organization to financial institutions, accounting, and legal professionals for operational needs
Board & Community Relations
Serve as primary staff liaison to a 10-member board; prepare board packets, lead quarterly meetings, and implement board directives
Cultivate relationships with local elected officials, community leaders, and foundations
Donor Relations & Fund Development
Build, manage, and cultivate relationships with existing and potential donors—ensuring thoughtful stewardship, timely acknowledgement, and proactive engagement
Focus on expanding individual donor base
Create and implement corporate donor strategy
Communications & Marketing Support
Work with marketing to amplify Village Project’s story across digital channels
Collaborate with marketing to produce corporate proposals, impact reports, and stewardship materials
Represent the organization at speaking engagements, community forums, and medial interviews
Qualifications & Competencies
Mission Alignment: Deep passion for Village Project’s vision. This vision is supported by six core values
Leadership Experience: 3-5+ years in senior/leadership roles in nonprofits or mission-driven organizations
Fundraising Track Record: Minimum 3-years leading or help manage grant writing and corporate development or major gifts
Financial Acumen: Hands-on P&L management and budget forecasting
Board Partnership: Demonstrated success building and working with boards to drive organizational impact
Community Connections: Established relationships in Avon, Avon Lake, Bay Village, Rocky River, and Westlake (highly preferred)
Communications Skills: Exceptional written/verbal communicator with media-relations experience
Tech Proficiency: Collaboration tools (Google, Microsoft), Givebutter experience preferred
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business, or related field a plus
